ASA latest - Portugal!

Apologies for late newsletter. Hubby Bob is not recovering too well after his recent mini-stroke and, of course, he's my first priority. Please include him in your prayers that he will strongly feel God's loving presence and healing power.
THIS SUNDAY'S GUEST will be JOE SANELLI, a member of Greentree's S.T.A.M.P.
team that went to Portugal this past July 12 - 23. Joe, who is Athletic Director at Atlantic Christian School in EHT, was one of four men and six women (including Pastor Pat Tedeschi and wife Dana), who went to assist Georgina, full-time missionary, whom Greentree helps to support in that country. Joe's narrative is riveting and informative about the work being done there, and gives a warm testimony of how impressed he was with Georgina and her son.
The program will air this Sunday, July 29, at 1:30 p.m. on station WIBG, 1020AM radio dial. Remember, you can listen simultaneously online atwww.wibg.com
WE MISSED YOU, MIKE! I can only hope I forget the trauma experienced the past two months while moving from our home of 42 years to my (now really nice!) mobile home at Oak Forest. Praise the Lord! During that time, a BIG regret was missing Mike and Dottie Clark, who run the Casa for hundreds of children in Guatemala, and who visited Atlantic City for a day while on a recent short vacation trip. I don't think any of us from Gospel Outbound was aware they were in this area -- much to our regret and disappointment. We can only hope they had a wonderful time "walking the boards" and extend to them our best wishes for happy memories of their vacation. We're so sorry we missed you!
Please continue to pray for Trish and Bernard Cohen. In her latest e-mail, Trish related that she is resting at home after her surgery and that her appointment "to remove the staples, discuss the staging of the tumor, and what the 'plan of action will be' is scheduled for this coming Monday afternoon." Bernard plans to return to Guatemala as soon as possible to finish the work he began before her surgery. In addition, Trish asked for prayer for daughter Lisa, whose MS test results were not good, and that Lisa's husband will be transferred to Jacksonville soon so he can be with the family.
A SPECIAL NOTICE TO ALL SHORT-TERM (AND LONG-TERM) MISSIONARIES: Josh Hennig, who records the ASA programs at the WIBG station in Ocean City, is available only between the hours of 11:30AM and 1PM on Tuesdays through Thursdays. However, schedules must be made in advance. You know who you are, and you know that each and every one of you is welcome to be on the program. It's all for the Glory of God -- not ours. So please call me at my new phone number: 609/926-3722, or e-mail me, and tell me you want to share with our growing number of listeners what you are doing in the mission field. BE BLESSED! Peace and Joy -- Jo

LATEST ASA NEWS

Dear brothers and sisters,
THIS SUNDAY'S GUEST: Atlantic County native Phil DiGiacinto, will be the guest on America's Silent Ambassadors this Sunday, July 22, at 1:30 p.m., on station WIBG, 1020AM radio dial. A realtor, Phil is a member of Praise Tabernacle Church in Egg Harbor Township, well-known for its mission outreach program. For the past eight years, Phil has been a member of his church's short-term mission team committed to the redevelopment of Rancho Los Amigos, a children's home run by YWAM (Youth With a Mission) in northern Mexico. (His teen-age son has accompanied the team the past two years.) Phil speaks with passion about the work the team does and how it has impacted not only the home but the surrounding area as well.
Remember, if you live outside the broadcast area, you can listen simultaneously online: www.wibg.com
PRAISE! Word has been received that our sister, Trish Cohen, long-time missionary in Panimaquin, Guatemala, now in Florida, who recently underwent surgery for removal of her L kidney, "is doing well and sleeping," according to her husband, Bernard. He added that "everything went smoothly." Praise!
For those of you who know Trish and would like to send her a card, her address is: 2315 Adams Lake Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32221. From the family: "Many, many thanks for your prayers!"
More reason for PRAISE! One of the most heartwarming e-mails I received this week came from our sister, Jill Mascena, RN, who, as many of you know, volunteered 10 years (from 1997 through 2006) on Gospel Outbound medical mission teams to help in the free medical/pharmacy clinics of John and Sharon Harvey's ASELSI in Guatemala.
Now "retired" (ha!), Jill wrote in part: "As you may remember, a few of us from our church have been doing health screening for the migrant workers in Hammonton. This past week, our outreach worker/interpreter was Carlos, a 29 year-old almost pastor from Peru, who is married to an American girl who was originally a short-term missionary to Peru. We had a couple of great prayer times Tuesday night (even though we work with a secular agency and prayer isn't part of it). ... "It was a wonderful night. .. Each week as we drive down, we ask the Lord to work through us however He chooses. [Although we don't see the results], we do realize that what we expect to happen is dumb compared to what He has in mind!"
Thank you for sharing with us, Jill, and may your faithfulness continue to inspire all of us!
And More Praise! In her weekly e-mail update, Yvonne Parr, missionary in Rwanda, wrote: "Trying to teach others how to stretch the money God has given them so God can bless it with increase has been challenging at times, but very rewarding. Then there are mornings like today, when you go outside to pay the little old man for the grass he brings for the sheep -- 60 cents a day. You see his tattered clothes, no shoes, skin like leather from hard work in the sun, yet he is happy to receive that 60 cents just for bringing one load of grass. ... God has a plan, the poor are with us always, but we are required to do what He asks -- sometimes with more sacrifice than other times."
PLEASE REMEMBER IN YOUR PRAYERS -- Greentree Church's S.T.A.M.P. team currently in Portugal, due to return home Monday, July 23. Pray for safe journey mercies and that God will bless their efforts.
Peace and Joy, Jo

THE LATEST ASA NEWS!

Dear brothers and sisters,
PRAISE! PRAISE!
The Lord has answered prayers. I spoke with Rev. Bishop of Barnabas House last night. Our brother, Rick Springsteen, is home and recovering from his surgery earlier this week at U. of Penn Hospital. Since Rick was resting, I did not wish to disturb him, but knew this GOOD NEWS should be passed on to you. Praise!
THIS SUNDAY'S GUESTS ON ASA:
Doug and Linda Long, members of Greentree Church's STAMP team that recently went to Belarus (June 25 - July 5) will be the guests on America's Silent Ambassadors this Sunday, July 15, at 1:30 p.m., on WIBG, 1020AM radio dial. Their account of the work the team prepared to do and accomplished is illuminating. Praise!
All for His Glory! Michael Kiyaga, who heads Tower of Hope in the U.S., wrote me the following: "We at Tower of Hope International Ministries thank you very much for your generosity. The money you donated was taken to Uganda last week and it was used for water supply, clinic, teachers pay, and school supplies....." You will remember that Tower of Hope conducted the sale of my house contents when I recently moved. Praise and Glory to God for His leading!
Rebecca Onkar, of Faith Calvary Ministries (FCM) in India, has requested prayers. She wrote, "We are in urgent need of some teachers and we also have a new principal. Please pray for him as he is taking on many new responsiblities."
Rebecca's dad, Richard Weidner, Treasurer of FCM, recently spent two weeks with the Onkars in India. He shared his experiences in a recent e-mail in which he said, "They minister with grace and hope against demonic forces, corruption, the weather, limited resources, discouraging circumstances and persecution. Yet they move on with joy, perseverence and faith. ..... Thank you for your partnership in the Gospel. Please keep praying. The battle is the Lord's. ..." Praise!
Please pray for Greentree's STAMP team that left yesterday for Portugal. Pray for safe journey mercies, and that the Lord will bless and keep the team as they seek to love and serve Him as He has commanded.
This is all the news for now. Remember to listen to the radio program -- it's all about God's servants seeking to do His Will. Join them. Peace and joy! Jo

Fwd: Latest on ASA & Jo's Move

Dear Loved Ones,
A special blessing to those who have missed this ASA Newsletter the past three weeks -- and even listened in on America's Silent Ambassadors on Sundays at 1:30 p.m. on WIBG, 1020AM radio dial, or simultaneously online, www.wibg.com I know I missed reaching out to you -- the work of our brothers and sisters in the mission field must go on.
The move from the Northfield home where Bob and I lived for 42 years to the smaller home was anything but smooth. My deepest gratitude to those of you who prayed me through all the rough times -- believe me, I felt your prayers! I ALSO FELT THE HANDS ON HELP FROM LILO HAWN, SHARON TUDOR, RICK SPRINGSTEEN, AND OTHER FAITHFUL BROTHERS AND SISTERS. Bob is still the same -- holding his own -- at Meadowview Nursing Home. HERE IS MY NEW ADDRESS AND TELEPHONE NUMBER:
Jo DiStefano Kapus
Oak Forest Mobile Home Park
309 Jetty Drive
Egg Harbor Township, NJ 08234
Phone: 609/926-3722
Praise the Lord, things are looking up, but it was touch and go for a long time. Am I getting old?
My thanks to Chaplain Rick Springsteen of Barnabas House for hooking up my pc equipment -- Only because of him am I able to send all of you this information via e-mail. (PLEASE, please remember to pray for Rick as he enters U. of Penn Hospital this Monday for corrective surgery for diverticulitis.)
AND LEST I FORGET!!! GARLANDS OF THANKS TO RICK BRANCADORA, OWNER/MANAGER OF STATION WIBG FOR HIS KINDNESS, GENEROSITY, PATIENCE AND LOVE FOR OUR LORD -- LETTING ME CONTINUE THE PROGRAM WITH REPEATS OF FAVORITE PAST BROADCASTS WHILE I WAS MOVING. BUT MOST OF ALL, WHEN RICK HEARD THAT I WAS PARTING WITH PRECIOUS LIFE POSSESSIONS BY LETTING TOWER OF HOPE, A MISSIONARY-AID SOCIETY THAT WORKS WITH DESTITUTE HOMELESS ORPHANS IN UGANDA, CONDUCT THE HOUSE CONTENTS SALE FOR THEIR BENEFIT, HE NOT ONLY ANNOUNCED THE SALE, BUT PERSONALLY MADE A GENEROUS DONATION TO TOWER OF HOPE! MAY THE LORD RICHLY BLESS YOU, RICH!!
This Sunday's guest on ASA will be a repitition of the broadcast of Rev. Terrol (Terry) W. Jones. It will be aired Sunday, July 8, at 1:30 p.m. on station WIBG, 1020AM radio dial. His experiences in northern India and Sri Lanka are riveting. Have you read his recent book, "Extreme Adventure - Experiencing the Word of God"? -- It's GREAT!
Please continue to pray for Trish Cohen, long-time GMO missionary, Panimaquin, Guatemala, now living in Florida. She is scheduled for July 19 at 8:30 a.m. for removal of her L kidney and close lymph nodes for biopsy. The Cohens are still conducting their mission efforts in Guatemala. Her husband, Bernard, is currently there and will return on the 18th in time for Trish's surgery.
Also, continue to pray for Yvonne and Les Parr in Rwanda. They are in great need of financial support (they have trouble paying for much needed food!). You can mail a check to: Elim Fellowship, 1703 Dalton Road, Lima NY 14485 and mark it Preferred Parr Support.
Please pray for Genesis, 11, in Mike Clark's Casa, who is waiting for a kidney transplant, hopefully in less than 90 days.
Pray also for John and Sharon Harvey, of ASELSI, as barriers seem to be opening up for Bible study for Quichua Indians in Ecuador. Also, their physical therapy clinic in Chichi is doing great! -- "several children who had no hope of walking are now able to walk with a walker!" Praise!
This is all for now. Remember to pray for our brothers and sisters who have answered the call to further God's Kingdom.
Praise the Lord for the Belarus team and pray for their safe return. Peace and Joy -- Jo

THE LATEST

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Apologies for no ASA (missions) Newsletter this week. Yours truly covets your prayers as she is overwhelmed by the business of moving after 42 years in the same home. Wow! Talk about possessions owning you.
PAT TEDESCHI, Pastor of Outreach and Discipleship at Greentree Church, EHT, will be the guest on America's Silent Ambassadors this Sunday, June 10, at 1:30 p.m., on station WIBG, 1020AM radio dial.
Pastor Pat gives an excellent report of his recent trip with Eric Huber to ASELSI (John and Sharon Harvey's mission compound in Chichicastenango, Guatemala). Of special interest is Pat's narrative concerning their role in teaching locals to lead and pastor churches, and visiting new churches, and how it became a learning experience for them -- which will be of great help in the future.
Please pray for:
Pastor Manuel Mateo -- friend of the Harvey's in Guatemala, for safety for his family, and that God will protect him from the forces of evil which threaten him at this time.
Mike Clark, who, as you know, runs a home for hundreds of neglected and abused children in Guatemala, has been plagued with armed gunmen. Wrote Mike recently, "It was such a feeling of security to return home today from the bank with two armed men inside and outside the gate. It is costly but there can be no price on the lives of children and staff."
Rebecca Onkar -- that she will enjoy a most pleasant visit from her Dad and niece who flew there from the U.S. last Monday. Also, please pray for their first Graduation of Faith Calvary Theological Seminary, which will be held June 8-10th with the main graduation taking place on Saturday, June 9th.
And please continue to pray for all God's harvesters, who faithfully preach His Word.
Be blessed. Jo

ASA (missions) NEWSLETTER

© 2007 Jo DiStefano Kapus (e-mail: supak@worldnet.att.net) June 1, 2007

SUNDAY'S GUEST: Tiffany Mills, 22 year-old student at Philadelphia Bible University, will be the guest on America's Silent Ambassadors this Sunday, June 3, 2007, at 1:30 p.m., on station WIBG, 1020AM radio dial. Tiffany first appeared on our program July 2, 2006, when she talked about her short-term mission trips to the Dominican Republic, Morocco and Algieria.

THIS SUNDAY, she speaks candidly about her recent trip during Spring break when she returned to the Dominican Republic and spent much time with street children. During her first trip there, Tiffany was so deeply touched by the homeless children that she couldn't wait to return. Hear how she is planning for her next trip to the Dominican Republic hoping to take her three younger sisters with her. Hear how she is seeking the Lord's blessing and guidance that she will be able to become a full-time missionary in that country and open a home for the street children.

Note: For those of our readers who feel a call to minister to street children in a foreign land, Tiffany recommends reading "A Cry from the Streets," by Jeanette Lukasse, published 2002 by YWAM Publishing. The book is mainly a dramatic story of rescue and restoration to which God called a young Dutch couple living among the hunted street children of Brazil.

You can listen simultaneously online: www.wibg.com Beginning June 1st, the program will also be aired online at 1:30 a.m. our time.

PRAISE ! Rick Springsteen, Team Leader of Gospel Outbound's recent medical mission team's trip to Guatemala, reported that the trip was a great success! "I arrived home at 2 o'clock this past Sunday morning," said Rick. "The trip was a wonderful success and we saw over 500 patients at our free clinics. The weather was beautiful." Rick went on to explain that Dr. Robert Smith, dermatologist and dermatopathologist, did not conduct his usual seminar this year. He volunteered his services half a day at a government clinic in Chichicastenango, working with patients with skin diseases. Praise!

Last night, I had the pleasure of talking on the phone with Renee Boyd, who is a staff member at Mike and Dottie Clark's Casa Para NiƱos Aleluya, a home for hundreds of neglected and abused children in Guatemala. Renee, who is the home's abuela, sewing teacher and librarian, is on vacation in the States. Although I met her briefly in November 2004 as a member of Gospel Outbound's Survey Team, I feel especially close to her. God called me to the mission field at age 71, and I think Renee was about that age when she was called. But she has served full-time overseas! We talked about not wanting to set a time limit on our service to the Lord. Next year, we'll be 80. It's just a number. Praise!
